PPEs Donation to Fight US COVID-19 Pandemic

Updated: Oct 21, 2020

In the middle of March, after a long exhausting journey of donation and distribution to help the COVID-19 pandemics in Wuhan, China, we are looking forward to an over-due well-deserved rest. Yet there was a rapid outbreak of COVID-19 virus in the USA. Medical staff were out of protective gears and equipment, we must jump back in action.

One of our team member, Suzie once said: “It seems like yesterday, March in America felt like January in Wuhan, China.” A friend of ours, an ER doctor Yuhong cried out for emergent help due to a shortage of masks in a handful of clinics. ACUVA immediately acted on it. On March 26th, the first load of medical supplies arrived at 15 clinics in California and New Jersey. Then Dr. Jiong in Washington state told us, some of the hospitals in Seattle, where COVID-19 hit first and hard, are lack of medical masks. We tried to seek for higher standard protective gear for medical use, including EvergreenHealth in Seattle, the frontline medical facility to treat the deadly and wide-spread viruses, not only do they have ER, but also ICUs for COVID-19 patients. Time is running out. We reached out to the manufacturers in China directly, two cases of N95 and sterile surgical masks arrived shortly. After that, more Chinese American volunteers jumped in helping the medical staff in hospitals. Oklahoma Chinese Community, Share & Grow Association, Youth Crestes raised funds in their local communities. New challenges came to ACUVA to help making massive purchasing and expedite shipping medical protective equipment and gears. In the following two months, we started with manufacturers, then clearing Custom and timely delivery. A lot of sleepless nights with sweet sweats shed in this long procedure. Suzie, medical equipment and supply expert, oversaw inspection and quality control of the masks. She worked long hours while having to take care of her younger kids. Our hard work paid off by passing the high standard of requirement for medical masks. The doctors all gave us big thumps up.

In addition to pay attention to high quality, we also focused on timely delivery to the hospital. Chen, a team member in Guangzhou, China, did a lot of work in logistics to make sure they are running smoothly. We always go above and beyond to meet the expectation of our donors. Xiangmei, Daphne and Annie also made and collected heart warming cards to send with the medical gears and equipment which brightened spirits of thousands in tough times like this.

As of end of May, 2020, ACUVA initiated and organized delivery of over one hundred loads of medical supplies, totaled of 58,500 protective gears, supported more than 70 hospitals, clinics, schools, senior care centers and other facilities over 9 states. The total value reached $91,641.
